Awesome 2nd Grade!

Wow! Day two is already in the books! I can tell we are going to have a FaBuLoUs year! All of the students are wonderful and eager to learn! Just like I like it :). I am going to attempt to set up a Twitter account to send information out that way. I'm also going to post important dates as they arise on this website. So make sure you check back often as things are constantly changing! I am so excited to spend time with your child!!

This was my classroom when I saw it for the first time. I am not going to paint the walls this year because of time constraints, but I believe I'll be painting next year. I also can't decide if I want a "theme" room or not...if you know me, you know that I am very here and there and a little unconventional. If I have a theme room it will have to be something that is not done very often, and to put it as easy as possible, I haven't found that or dreamed it up at 3 in the morning. Right now I have zebra curtains, but I plan to make some different ones with Mom if all goes well!

Summer, Week 2

So I received my "official letter of employment" from the board this week. That didn't mean I could relax for the summer...no, it meant time to get to work!! I went to look at my classroom on Tuesday and have been thinking about it ever since!! I am hoping to start decorating on Thursday of next week. I spent Thursday and Friday in professional development classes. Let me tell you, these classes really gave me some insight on important aspects of the classroom. Don't worry, I'll be sending home letters, notes, and anything else to help with the ways of Mrs. Holemon's second grade classroom. I absolutely can't wait to meet each and every child that will become wonderful learners in my classroom and it's only June!! Imagine the anticipation by August...

Checking books out of Mrs. Holemon's Library

Students will be assigned a clothespin with their name on it. Once he/she has found a book, they will clip their clothes pin to the basket. This will help each student learn how to care for the books and the library. Students will also have book sacks to store a chapter book and/or a few picture books. This will also help with nightly reading since students will read only library books at home...hopefully they will choose books that they will be eager to read :) This is the first of many posts of "summer ideas" that I hope to come across!!

The BIG News!!

On Tuesday, I received a notice that I would not be teaching the following year in the same school because of funding. I immediately started working to attempt to secure a job. I interviewed at Brookwood on Friday, and received a call with an attempt to hire that afternoon!! Finally, a semi-relaxing summer with the job hunt behind me!! Now on to the fun stuff...planning for my classroom! I have slept less now then when I was searching for a job simply from EXCITEMENT!!! I have thoughts of themes, lessons to create, decorations, etc. etc. running through my head constantly! I just hope the students are as eager to be in my classroom as I am :). I can NOT WAIT to meet these students!!! This will be my first official full year in a single classroom as I spent 6 months at TPS as a long-term sub in second grade and 11 weeks as a full time teacher at VES in second grade the previous year. I am so excited to see what we can learn and achieve in a WHOLE full year together!!!

Upcoming Activities!

Hello Parents! I hope many of you start visiting our blog frequently. I will attempt to always have upcoming events and activities listed on here just so you'll know to look for SOMETHING to be coming home from your child's back pack. Some things I thought I would go ahead and put on here are:
1. Special Days! We will be having another special days on Friday, October 23, 2009. For one dollar your child can get a lemonade, air head, and tattoo!!
2. The students LOVED making and presenting space projects, so we are going to do something similar for nocturnal animals. I am sending home a paper this week about this and on the back will be some awesome ideas to get you started on creating a wonderful project on a creature of the night! These will be due October 29th.
3. We are going to be having a halloween food experience and need about 4 volunteers to help "Man" the centers. If you would be interested, I would love to have you join us! I will also need some food supplies so look for a note to come home in your child's B.E.A.C.H. Binder!
4. AR scores are already improving dramatically! Remember that only one book HAS to be read, but some students are enjoying getting two stickers a day so I am definitely encouraging two books rather than discouraging. I realize that family time is important and that two books can really take up a lot of time, but books can always be integrated into family time!

I think that's all for now! This is just another way to help get information to parents so stop by frequently and check out what we have going on!! Have a great day!!

Alice in wonderland

When the bunny and Alice went down the rabbit hole it was cool! The room went flashing & they had a umbrella .Alice wanted to get out of there. It was funny when the queen sang off with your heads ,she danced with the music she said she saw someone picking there nose. She said off with your head disgusting. That play was so FUNNY! All the target kids loved it.I wish we could go see it again.
